Day Three: Last day

Generally the training was good.
I had a problem with my blog that took almost that whole first and second training. With the help of the facilitaotr, the UDCC IT and my fellow trainees I managed to work again with my new blog.
I like the way our facilitator help the trainees to understand different things that were not clear practically.

It seems the time given to the whole training was very short, three day are not enough. We could even take more time in this training because our facilitator sometime was rushing due to shortage time.
My expectation was fulfilled, but left with eager to know more in investigative internet journalism.

A big challenge of the last day was power cut and the power backup was not working therefore we had to start doing or loading our blogs.

Chaos in Mtwara:Natural gas project.

Soon after the confirmation of gas project in Mtwara violent demonstration erupted. The confirmation was announced by Prof. Peter Muhongo in the parliament saying that “the construction of Mtwara – Dar es Salaam gas pipeline will continue according to its plan.” After that in Mtwara chaos started by gangs of youths hurted stones and burning down and vandalizing houses belonging to Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and its leaders. A journalist was also attacked and TBC correspondent Kassim Mikongolo house was burnt down.

Other report said that four People’s Defense Forces soldiers died and 20 seriously injured in car accident where they were rushing from Nachingwea in Lindi Region to Mtwara in order to help in suppressing the riots. The witnesses of the accident said that, loss of control of the driver caused the accident. In total the tuck was carrying 30 soldiers.

Prof. Sospeter Muhingo said that, 36 billion has been allocated to gas processing in Lindi and Mtwara. And a US-based firmed was given a go-ahead in building the processing factory.  He added by saying that the factory  will create jobs to the people in Mtwara and also boosting the power supply to the grid and making Mtwara to be an Industrial investment area in Southern region.  He clarified by giving an example of Dangote Industries that was setting up its integrated cement plant.

He also said that from the sale from natural gas 0.3 per cent will remain in Mtwara and Lindi, and soon after the arrival of investors benefits for social services will follow. There will be an opportunity to the youth of Mtwara and Lindi to get training in gas and oil at Vocational Education Training Authority.

The pipeline to be constructed from Mtwara to Dar es Salaam will be 512 kilometre. And the cost of the project will be 1.86 trillion ($ 1.2billion). He also said that the pipeline capacity will have to transport 784 cubic feet of gas per day which will generate 3,920 MW of electricity. In referring to the recent domestic demand of 720 MW of electricity, the country will have a surplus of more than 3000 MW.

According to Ministry of Energy and Minerals permanent secretary Eliakim Maswi , three Chinese companies  have signed a contract  July 21st for starting the construction. In addition he said that, the project  period will be 18 months which will involve building 36 inches pipeline for 487 kilometre and 24 inch pipeline for 24kilometre, which will connect mainland to the gas source on Samanga Fungu, a small island in the Indian ocean.

Day three:

Day two: Summary of day two training

"I will rather work with Rassians than working with the Americans" said President Mseveni

"I will rather work with Rassians than working with the Americans" said President Mseveni

Is just one month ago a Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan signed an anti-gay bill into law that caused the violence increase  against gays. Now the Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni similarly signed the bill that toughen penalties to the Ugandan people who will be engaging in homosexual activities and defined homosexuality as crime that will take someone into prison for life. Museveni  decided to signed the bill after getting a report from the scientists proving that there is no genetic basis for homosexuality. Not only than but also he said that, "the bill which goes to effect immediately was needed because the West is promoting homosexuality in Africa."

Talking to he told CNN's Zain Verjee in Entebbe Museveni said, "we have been disappointed for a long time by the conduct of the west, the way you conduct yourselves there, our disappointment is now exacerbated because we are sorry to that you live the way you live, but we keep quite about it. Now you say you must also live like us, that is where I say no."

He continued by saying that "if the west doesn't want to work with us because of homosexuals, then we have enough space here to live by ourselves and do business with other people."

Talking to New Vision newspaper President Museveni said that, "Homosexuals are nurtured but not natured. No study has shown that one can be a homosexual purely by nature.  Since nurture is the cause, that is why I have sign the Bill into law;"

Though the US president Barack Obama warned him of not signing the bill, and if he signed Uganda will not receive any more Aids from US but purposely Museveni rejected and signed. Firmly Museveni signed the bill publically declare that homosexual is not allowed in Uganda anymore.

Day two of the training at UDCC

I'm now in the training room this morning ready for the training. Most of the trainees are also in and the facilitator is going through different blogs that was created yesterday by the trainees.
My fellow trainees I wish you all the best in this day two of training in Investigative Internet Journalism

Day 1: Enjoyable Training at UDCC - Arusha

It has been a grateful first training day with a lot of experiences and knowledge in this training.
The training started by introduction of the training coordinator, then the training facilitator and at last the trainees.
The introduction helped me to know different journalists who are working with different media within and out side Arusha. But also I get to know other trainees coming from Media education Institutions.
The part I liked very much was the introduction followed by giving out the expectations of each one of the trainees toward this training. Also understanding the terms; Investigative Journalism Vs Investigative Internet Journalism. Finally Journalistic research Assignments
To me I would prefer to be helped on how to get the material in a proper way and not plagiarism. This is because most of the media we have in Tanzania use to copy paste the news stories from the international Media without editing those stories.
The concrete example that we discussed in the training is about finding the population of Iringa Urban, Ukraine, finding the phone number of Media Council of Tanzania, Finland Embassy in Dar es Salaam. Not only that but also using Google in finding the location you want to reach.
I hope the remaining two day are going to give us more knowledge and skills in ivestigative internet Journalism.
